street fixie

street fixie prototype

The street fixie has been designed for cycle messengers and urban cyclists who have no need for cables and gears. The design is a collaboration between Andy Duncan of Cycleworks and Fred Snel of Snel Tweewielers.

The geometry of the street fixie frame is similar to that of a cyclo cross frame. The angles of the seat and headset tubes are the same as those of a racing frame, the bottom bracket is higher off the ground, and there is room between the rear stays for thicker tyres. The difference is track dropouts. It is made of Columbus Brain tubes.

The price of a basic frameset (matt black powder coated frame with chrome plated fork, headset, seatpost and stem) is €500 excluding sales tax (where applicable) and delivery costs (if necessary). The price of a complete bicycle will depend on the components used. A basic model uses Miche hubs and crank with Rigida rims and DT spokes.

The photo is of the first prototype. This uses Miche hubs, Rigida DP18 rims, DT competition black spokes, and a stripped down old school (114mm pitch!) Campagnolo race crank. The gear ratio is 42/15. The tyres are Schwalbe Marathon 28/622. The chain is Wipperman, and the axle Shimano Ultegra 107mm. There is a Campagnolo front brake with a Shimano XT lever, Crank Brothers 4x4 pedals and a Flite saddle.

For professional cycle messengers there is a discount of 20%.
